Itawamba tax collector candidate charged with identity theft

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba County investigators have arrested and charged a candidate in the county tax collector race for allegedly committing identity theft.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports 30-year-old Matthew Perry, of Fulton, is accused of obtaining multiple credit cards under the name of Brittni Smith, who law enforcement officials say is a former girlfriend of his. Authorities say Perry has charged more than $7,000 since 2013 using Smith’s name.
