Gulf Coast Freedom Rally and TEA Party set for Biloxi

The Freedom Rally and TEA party at the Biloxi Town Green is scheduled from noon to 7 p.m. at 710 Beach Blvd., directly across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and about a block away from the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, where the conference is being held.

The rally is being sponsored by the Gulf Coast We Surround Them/912 Project.

“There’s no political affiliation whatsoever,” said Dan Triplett, the group’s chairman.

Triplett said the event is geared toward conservatives from any party.

The 600-member Gulf Coast group supports a state ballot initiative to “Cap the Fed Tax,” an effort to limit the federal government’s authority to tax citizens and businesses at no more than 10 percent of their income. Petitions to support that effort will be available at the rally.

“The theme of the event, since it’s geared toward communicating directly to the governors, is that we would like them to take a more active role in restraining an out-of-control federal government,” Triplett said.

An Ocean Springs resident, Triplett said the federal government is “out of control constitutionally” and doesn’t have the authority to cap trade, implement national health care or financially bail out private companies bankrupt by the economic downturn.

Guest speakers will take the stage from 3 to 7 p.m. The speaking schedule includes Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, State Auditor Stacy Pickering, author Hilmer Von Campe and radio personality William Sackett. Triplett will be the keynote speaker.
