Templeton’s take on conference expansion/realignment

Templeton and I spoke for this story, which appeared in Tuesday’s paper, on his role with the SEC. When the conversation turned toward conference realignment/expansion, Templeton clearly had his views. (He also wanted to make one thing clear: He was speaking only as Larry Templeton, not on behalf of the league for which he consults.)

“The beauty of being a member of this conference right now, (the league members are) protected,” Templeton said. “The SEC isn’t going to kick out one of the 12 members. … There could be some major major Division I programs that get left out. And when that chain reaction starts happening, there are going to be some people that have to do some things to defend themselves.”
