Voters give young politicians a chance

There are some signs pointing to that with recent municipal elections. We saw 34-year-old Chokwe Antar Lumumba elected mayor in Jackson; 30-year-old Mario King elected mayor of Moss Point; 37-year-old Ryshonda Harper Beechem elected the first African-American mayor in Pelahatchie, and Rep. Toby Barker, 35, elected mayor of Hattiesburg.

And, we have seen young lawmakers, such as Rep. Jeramey Anderson, D-Escatawpa, who was 22 when he took office.

I’m not sure yet if there is a trend, but it appears voters are seeking fresh, younger leadership to carry the torch.
