Three quarterbacks, three varying paths

Typically, it refers to in-house competition for a starting job.
Today, “quarterback controversy” is about three different guys. One on the way back in, one trying to stay in and another trying to stay out. Maybe.
First, there is Brett Favre. Even when he says he’s retired, the rest of the world won’t listen.
Jay Glazer, in his Fox Sports column, speculated Favre would soon join the Vikings but clearly called it a “prediction” based on conversations with Minnesota players and staff.
