Tommy Taylor appointed chair of House Corrections Committee

Speaker of the House Philip Gunn has announced his appointment of Rep. Tommy Taylor (R-Boyle) to the position of Chairman of the House Corrections Committee. Chairman Taylor replaces former Chairman Rep. George Flaggs (D-Vicksburg) who was sworn in as Mayor of Vicksburg on June 30.

“I am pleased to appoint Rep. Taylor to fill this position as Chairman on the House Corrections Committee,” said Speaker Philip Gunn. “Rep. Taylor served as warden to a prison for many years. From an insider’s perspective, he knows how a corrections facility operates, and I trust that. I know he will guide the House to make efficient decisions related to Mississippi’s prison system.

“We have a lot of work to do,” he continued. “As the number of incarcerations rise, so do the costs. We have to figure out how to better deal with this growing burden, now, and in the future.”
