Tucker GOP pick for Madison sheriff

Randy Tucker toppled Republican opponent Jimmy Houston in Tuesday’s runoff for Madison County sheriff.

Now, Tucker will spar with Democrat Ted Smith in the Nov. 8 general election for the post.

“I am the proper and only candidate who can step in day one and the public never lose a moment of their safety and law enforcement representation,” said Tucker, currently a captain with the sheriff’s department.

Tucker, 41, defeated Houston, 59, with 55.8 percent of the votes, although in the Aug. 2 primary Houston received the most votes out of five candidates.
