UM’s Pomeranz picked 5th overall by Indians

“I’d like to end up in the big leagues in three years,” he said. “We’ll see how negotiations go.”

Pomeranz, too, seems likely to forego college ball next season in exchange for a lucrative payday. The No. 5 pick in last year’s draft, high school pitcher Matt Hobgood, received a signing bonus of $2.4 million.

Pomeranz was a 12th-round pick as high school senior in 2007 before choosing to attend Ole Miss. He compiled a 21-9 record over his three seasons in Oxford, tying for the ninth-most pitching victories in a school history.
