USC football: Pete Carroll says Seahawks opportunity ‘came out of nowhere’

He will meet today with USC players and then begin his transition back to pro football, where he last coached in 1999.

I spoke with Carroll early this morning about his decision to leave USC and his new job with the Seattle Seahawks.

On the possibility of landing what he considered a perfect NFL opportunity: “I had given up on it, but it came out of nowhere.”

On whether he left because of possible NCAA sanctions: “Not in any way. Because I know where we stand. It’s just a process we have to go through. We know we’ve fought hard to do right.”

On whether he had any regrets: “I’ve given everything I’ve had. There was never going to be a good time.”
