What now?
STARKVILLE — Forty-four days ago, Michael Brown was finishing spring football practice at Mississippi State, ready for the four-month long respite between practices.
He was eight classes away from earning a degree. His picture was probably going to be on the cover of the Bulldogs’ 2008 football media guide, an honor usually bestowed upon senior team leaders.

As a projected NFL draft selection next April at one the most valuable spots on the field, protecting a millionaire quarterback’s blind side at left tackle, hard work, talent and opportunity were conspiring to make him millions of dollars.

Then came 9:30 p.m. on March 27, when he brandished a pistol in an attempt to settle a dispute near an on-campus dormitory.

Now, his road to the NFL is as long as the one between Starkville to his Atlanta-area home.
