Which College Football Giant Awakens Next?

This time last year, Alabama was just another has-been behemoth. The Crimson Tide was coming off of a 7-6 2007 and was facing a killer 2008 schedule. Penn State went 4-7 in 2004 before winning a share of the Big Ten the following season. Southern California, whose seven-year Pac-10 title run began in 2002, went 6-6 the season prior.
We mention this as a warning. No matter how bleak their previous season seemed, how rough their coaching transitions look or how pathetic their return-to-glory efforts appear, never underestimate college football’s fallen giants. Or the topsy-turvy nature of this sport.
