Wicker: GO Zone extension unlikely in current Congress

GULFPORT — Congress is unlikely to pass another extension of Gulf Opportunity Zone incentives for hurricane recovery, U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker said Friday, which could thwart efforts to lure investors to the region.

“I don’t think we can count on that at all,” he said. “Just watch the debate in Congress over the next four weeks and see how hard it is to make the case for any projects, no matter how popular they are, when we have a $1.5 trillion deficit this year alone …. It was a heavy lift to get the extension we got in December 2010.”
